Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
Patient Advocacy has always been at the forefront of my nursing practice. Whether it be a critically ill patient in the Emergency Department, or working with a patient's family to provide end-of-life care in the Intensive Care Unit, I have always strived to provide patients with the best nursing care possible and support their loved ones with compassion and empathy.
This was instilled in me early on as I attended a hospital-based nursing program, one with a reputation for exceptional patient-centered care and a longstanding tradition of nursing excellence. Although I have since continued my educational pursuits and earned dual Master of Science in Nursing / Master of Health Administration degrees, I have never forgotten the importance of these fundamental concepts.
I realize that our health care system is complex, fragmented and confusing. Throughout my 22 years as a Registered Nurse, I have worked in a variety of clinical and leadership roles in healthcare systems throughout North Carolina and Virginia, and am aware of the nuances in our local and regional systems. I have seen the frustration and anxiety that patients and families feel when they are overwhelmed and not sure where to turn. I have seen families puzzled and upset by the lack of communication and use of medical jargon that we see today.
In 2017, I started Carolina Patient Advocates, PLLC with the goal of providing you with an experienced, professional Registered Nurse to act as YOUR Patient Advocate, to look out for YOUR best interests and guide YOU through the complexities of our healthcare system. With empathy and understanding, we can ease your burdens and offer experienced guidance to help you and your loved ones make choices that are right for you!
