How I Can Help
I have been a licensed physical therapist for 32 years and a healthcare executive for 16 years with a specific emphasis on the transitions from the acute hospital to the post acute continuum. I have particular expertise in the Medicare landscape and have focused largely on the senior population for most of my career.

My services include:

* Crisis management - this is often when clients find me. A new diagnosis, trauma or other illness or injury that forces the family into the confusing world of healthcare, its unique language, overwhelming decisions all while dealing with the emotion of a loved one in crisis.

*Care Navigation - begins with the translation of terms and the myriad of choices a family might face. The healthcare system is complex and often individuals have certain desires that are contrary to the 'normal' pathways. I help make sure that the providers understand the patient's and family's wishes and that the family understands how their decisions may impact the patient

*Care Coordination - so much risk lies in the transitions of care. When a patient leaves the hospital, the hospitalist and physicians are also no longer active on the case. How do you choose the next provider? How do you evaluate quality? How do you ensure that the next provider(s) will provide the right level of care? This is where care coordination comes in

*Information aggregation - healthcare information can be overwhelming on its own, even without the emotional toll an injury or illness brings. I make sure that every family I work with has information that is accurate up to the minute, along with the ability to keep everyone informed - including other family members, primary doctors and other care providers, as well as service providers such as attorneys and fiduciaries. The portability of the information helps greatly if another crisis were to occur

*Chronic disease management - by their very nature, chronic, progressive diseases get worse over time. Having a plan complete with specific triggers can help the entire family be prepared when the next level of care is needed, or to make accommodations to allow the patient to stay in place for as long as possible.

*Family office governance and succession planning - family offices often have many layers. By taking a comprehensive planning approach to governance and succession planning, I ensure that there is clear structure beginning with taking care of the matriarch and/or patriarch of the family. Through regular account management meetings, these plans are updated that reflect changes as needed

*Concierge patient advocacy - I offer a true 'white glove' service that includes bedside advocacy, access to me and my resources 24/7.

Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
While trying to fix the broken healthcare system from the inside, I realized that patients and families are often left to make very critical decisions without understanding the ramifications of those decisions. Like so many advocates, no single event drove this home for me more than a personal experience. More than a decade ago, my dad went in for a routine back surgery, only to be overmedicated to the point of being unresponsive. When the discharge planners started talking about putting him in long term care, I knew it was up to me to act.

Since that incident, I have advocated for so many patients and families as a clinician and an executive. I left my corporate career behind to focus on what matters most - you and your family making informed and guided decisions while facing healthcare crisis.
