How I Can Help
I help patients with non-formal complaints, help navigate the Kaiser Permanente system and act as a liaison between patients, families and members of the healthcare team. I often times refer to the role as a "master connector" helping patient's and family members get connected to the appropriate people and resources available to them. The role of the patient advocate is to always meet the patient where they are at. Whatever the issue might be the Patient Advocate is there to listen, stand with you, guide you to where you need to go and if necessary even hold your hand.

Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
My journey started with an internship at a a Jewish community center in New York. I worked with children with Development and intellectual disabilities. Soon after my internship I became an employee for JCC, where I was able to run my own group. I overlaped working at the JCC with a fulltime job at YAI Seeing Beyond disabilities. I was an Assistance behavior interventions specialist in a residential home with adults. The adults in the ICF had a wide range of diagnosis, from development, physical and mental health opportunities. In this role I learned how to act as a liaison between the members, family and Employees. I also learned how to advocate for the members needs to outside medical staff when attending appointments.

My Journey took a turn when I decided to move back to my home town of Portland Oregon. I found a job with Providence as a Clinical navigator where I was trained as a medical assistant. The hiring manager (RN) saw my education and diverse work history (Developmental, intellectual disabilities and mental health). She saw this as a great opportunity to have a liaison in the clinical helping the patients to connect better with their clinical team. This is where my natural passions really begin to come to light. I found myself as a Patient Advocate in a healthcare System. It was this job that lead me to the Patient Advocate Role at Kaiser Permanete. I finally feel I have found my calling!
