Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
Healthcare is changing, making it hard for patients to feel like an individual and not a diagnosis or disease. After advocating for my husband with heart disease, myself as a cancer survivor, and my aging parents with significant healthcare needs, I realized how confusing the healthcare environment can be for someone with no medical knowledge. Each of these situations opened my eyes for my passion for patient advocacy and helping others navigate complex healthcare situations. Through my work in various clinical roles, including critical care, ICU clinical management and nursing education, I have developed skills and expertise that I would like to share with others in making confident, informed decisions about the healthcare they receive.

Additional Skills
I have worked with several large healthcare systems, understanding how complex hospital admissions and discharges can be. I was the Power of Attorney for my mother with advanced dementia and assisting her in end of life planning and finding the best options for memory care. As a recipient of multiple aspects of cancer care, I am familiar with treatment options, following the evidence for best practices and obtaining second opinions.
Professional Affiliations
I have over 35 years of nursing experience in multiple clinical environments, working both at the bedside in direct patient care and in leadership roles. 32 of my 35 years were spent in the critical care setting. I believe in being a life-long learner and made it a point to attend many opportunities for critical care continuing education. Because healthcare changes so rapidly, I believe it is important to stay abreast of best practices in the clinical setting, including both inpatient and oupatient areas..
