Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
With 21 years of experience at the bedside, including 14 years as a Registered Nurse, my career has been devoted to improving the lives of my patients. Throughout this time, I have worked tirelessly to deliver compassionate, high-quality care, but I have also witnessed the systemic issues plaguing our healthcare system. Despite the dedication of countless healthcare professionals, medical errors and communication breakdowns remain far too common, creating preventable harm for patients and their families.

While I have had the privilege of being part of many success stories, I have also seen heartbreaking outcomes—not solely due to the injuries or illnesses that brought patients to the hospital, but because of complications and missteps that occurred during or after their hospitalization. These experiences deeply impacted me and motivated me to address the gaps in our healthcare system.

Over time, I have observed worsening patient outcomes due to:

**Breakdowns in Communication**
- Patients and families left in the dark about diagnoses, only to discover critical information months later.
- Misdiagnoses or uncommunicated abnormalities in lab and imaging results that adversely affected long-term health.
- Physicians providing incomplete explanations, leaving patients and families confused and overwhelmed.
- Medications prescribed or tests ordered without prior discussion or consent.

**Delays in Treatment**
- Overburdened doctors and nurses managing unmanageable caseloads, such as hospitalists caring for 20-40 patients daily and nurses overseeing teams of 5-8 patients at a time.
- Decisions to downgrade patients from ICU to lesser acuity units prematurely, increasing the risk of preventable complications.
- Lengthy waits for interventions, leading to long-lasting or irreversible impacts on patients' health.

**Medical Errors**
- Administration of incorrect medications or diagnostic tests.
- Failure to respond to critical changes in vital signs.
- Preventable surgical errors, hospital-acquired infections, pressure injuries, and equipment failures.

In these challenging circumstances, advocacy has been my most essential role. Time and again, I have seen how effective advocacy can transform patient outcomes and change lives for the better. Advocacy is both a skill and a calling for me—one that I have honed through years of clinical expertise, consistent communication, and a relentless commitment to my patients.

Becoming an independent RN patient advocate was a natural evolution of my career. It allows me to dedicate myself fully to helping patients and families navigate the complexities of the healthcare system. My mission is to:

- Partner with you to ensure your voice is heard and respected in every aspect of your care.
- Guide you through healthcare transitions with confidence and clarity.
- Advocate for your needs and preferences to achieve the best possible outcomes.
- Educate you and your loved ones to empower informed decisions, treating you with the same care and dedication as I would my own family.
-Improve your quality of life.

I am passionate about using my skills to improve the quality of life for those I serve. It would be an honor to work alongside you, providing the support and expertise you need to navigate today’s healthcare challenges.
