How I Can Help
As both a retired attorney and an active acute care nurse practitioner, I bring a unique dual perspective to patient advocacy—combining deep clinical insight with a strong foundation in legal and ethical considerations. I help individuals and families navigate complex healthcare decisions by clarifying medical conditions, outlining potential courses of illness, and weighing the risks and benefits of treatments or procedures. I am skilled at facilitating clear and respectful communication with medical teams to ensure that patients' values and preferences are understood and honored. I also offer guidance in end-of-life care planning, including advance directives and durable power of attorney discussions, helping patients and their loved ones make informed, compassionate choices with confidence.
I can assist with a variety of services. The following are some examples:
-Translate medical conversations to digestible terms and what it means for you and your loved ones
-Assist in making in-depth risk-benefit conversations regarding treatment options
-Serve as a bedside advocate during hospital admission
-Attend patient visits with providers in medical offices
-Connect with an extensive network of in-home services for care in place, including but not limited to house call doctors, physical/occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, alternative medicine providers, mental health professionals, hospital at home, urgent care at home and in-home lab and xray/ultrasounds, as well as home nursing care services.
-Discuss medical billing concerns and plans of action
-Discuss advanced care planning needs, including healthcare proxies, powers of attorney, living wills, and other documents

Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
My journey as a patient advocate became deeply personal when I traveled to a foreign country to help a family member during the final chapter of their life. They had moved abroad for retirement, full of hope and independence, but an unexpected illness left them suddenly incapacitated. Navigating a foreign healthcare system—marked by different legal frameworks, cultural values, and end-of-life norms—was overwhelming for our family. Despite the challenges, I drew upon my background in both law and medicine to ensure their wishes were understood and honored.
In a setting where prolonging life was often prioritized above all else, I worked closely with local medical teams, clarified complex medical information for the family, and advocated for a care plan that aligned with their values and previously expressed preferences. It was through this experience that I truly saw the importance of culturally sensitive, informed advocacy. They passed with dignity, and I carried forward a deepened commitment to helping others navigate these delicate decisions with clarity and compassion—no matter how complex the circumstances.
Unique attributes
1. Dual Expertise in Law and Medicine
I bring a rare, highly valuable intersection of legal acumen and clinical expertise—critical in navigating both the healthcare system and legal frameworks around patient rights, consent, and advanced care planning.
2. Cross-Cultural Competence
I have experience advocating internationally, especially in a complex legal and cultural environment like Israel, demonstrating a nuanced understanding of how culture, religion, and law intersect in healthcare. This is especially valuable for clients with international ties or unique cultural backgrounds.
3. High-Stakes Decision-Making Under Pressure
I have managed emotionally charged, medically complex decisions in a high-stress environment. Demonstrating a capacity for calm, ethical, and decisive leadership when clients are overwhelmed or when outcomes hang in the balance.
4. End-of-Life and Advanced Care Planning Expertise
I have not only guided others through these processes professionally but also lived through them personally, adding empathy, authenticity, and depth to my guidance.
5. Systems Navigation Mastery
My ability to coordinate care across legal and medical systems establishes exceptional skill in navigating bureaucracy, advocating across disciplines, and cutting through red tape—all of which saves you time, stress, and money.
6. Medical-Legal Translation
I can translate complex information—clinical, legal, or both—into understandable, actionable plans. That bridges communication between patients, families, and professionals.
7. Ethical Integrity & Boundary Setting
I have the ability to uphold a patient’s values while balancing the realities of medical and legal environments, even across national borders.
