Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I left for college to pursue a medical degree. While studying, I discovered that I had a much higher aptitude for business and graduated with a marketing degree. But my love for medicine never faded.
I chose to apply my business skills within the healthcare industry and for 24-years my skills kept me on the front lines of healthcare delivery where I focused on Oncology (the study of cancer). My career has provided an in-depth knowledge of cancer care—through rigorous disease state training coupled with professional experiences relating to clinical treatment, research, patient advocacy and assistance.
In 2015, cancer came to my family. My father was diagnosed and throughout that intense period of our personal cancer journey I frequently thought, “ how do people without some knowledge of the medical system and specifically oncology, manage the confusion of such a disruptive diagnosis?”
I quickly recognized the need and tremendous opportunity to help people facing cancer. I knew that I wanted to act as their champion when they most need one, especially as healthcare becomes more confusing and costly. I left my corporate job and founded Cancer Champions.
