How I Can Help
I am equipped to help patients and their families navigate the healthcare system effectively. My support includes arranging appointments, verifying prescriptions, enabling access to medical records, and addressing concerns about quality of care and staff disagreements. I also offer assistance with online medical records, ensuring patients are well-informed about their health data. Furthermore, I can facilitate the transition between healthcare providers, which can be a complex process. In instances of delayed medical information, I coordinate with medical personnel to obtain the necessary details. Should you need reinstatement after a facility dismissal, I am ready to work with you to regain your access to care. In addition, I can help with submitting Healthcare Power of Attorney (HCPOA) documents to your medical providers, guaranteeing that your chosen representative has the correct authorization to discuss your care.

Hospital visits can be very stressful, and misunderstandings may stem from fear or uncertainty. I am here to collaborate with you and your facility to resolve any negative communication issues, ensuring a smooth continuation of your care. Regardless of the challenge, I am happy to offer an initial phone consultation so that you understand what options may be available to you. Give me a call so we can figure this out together.

Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I began my role as a patient advocate in 1997 after moving to Milwaukee, WI, to support my disabled mother. She was battling congestive heart failure, morbid obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, and several other chronic conditions. These health issues hindered her ability to function in society or even move from one room to another unaided.

I took charge of arranging Mom's transportation for medical appointments, ensuring we had access to services that provided a wheelchair-accessible van and accepted Medicare. I joined her during doctor visits, pushing for any entitled food or home care services. As her Health Care Power of Attorney, I could discuss her personality changes due to her illnesses with her healthcare provider. This led to a consensus to try medications for depression, which brought her mental comfort for the rest of her life.

Advocating for my mother's healthcare needs exposed me to the numerous obstacles encountered when seeking essential care. It's particularly challenging for those unfamiliar with the healthcare system, and having an ally is vital for receiving quality care. I've learned the critical questions to ask, the steps to secure prompt and proper care, and effective communication with medical staff to ensure the best outcomes.

I am dedicated to aiding those who require help in accessing safe, dignified, and prompt medical care.

Additional Skills
I am deeply committed to diversity, equality, and inclusion, with a decade of active engagement in DEI initiatives. My experience has shown a significant educational gap within the medical community on the impact of empathy, patience, and respect on interaction quality and our collective progress. Medical professionals in hospitals or clinics often prioritize processing issues quickly and ensuring patient safety. However, I concentrate on comprehending the patient's needs and concerns, striving to address them effectively or to provide useful resources. Medical professionals, bound by their roles within healthcare facilities, may lack the resources, time, or knowledge to tackle the personal, social, and economic issues that complicate access to medical care. In contrast, I serve you, not the institution. My objective is to make certain you are informed about the services at your disposal and how to access care efficiently. I will also clarify any limitations, ensuring we navigate towards the best possible outcomes. Fluent in the language of diversity, I am eager to listen and leverage my expertise to assist you. With the necessary time, knowledge, and empathy, my aim is to guarantee you receive the care you rightfully deserve..
