How I Can Help
In my over 30 years of medical practice, I have witnessed many patients and their families be overwhelmed by a new diagnosis. Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I am passionate about wanting to help patients and their families arrive at the right decision when faced with a medical dilemma.
I remember when I had breast cancer.
As a physician, I know a great deal. But, as a patient, I wasn't very different from any other patient.
My surgeon and my oncologist assumed I would need chemotherapy.
Truthfully, I didn't want chemotherapy.
I spoke with a family friend - a specialist in breast cancer in Boston - and I found out that they were learning not all cancers are the same and not all patients need the same treatment.
I was able to go back to my oncologist and ask her to order the DNA on my tumor cells.
It turned out, after testing, I had a worse prognosis with chemotherapy than without!!!
This was excellent news and occurred only because I went further to study the options.
