My Survivor Support Advocacy Qualifications
I am a survivor of Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM), Subarachnoid Hemorrhage, Intracerebral Hemorrhage, Stroke.
I have 30 years experience as an RN working in hospitals, home healthcare, hospice and health insurance with certification in case management. I have specific experience with Medicare Advantage plans and Special Needs Plans, Medicaid waiver plans, and dealing with older adults as they age in place.
Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
As a new college graduate just striking out on my own I was diagnosed with a large arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in my brain which required surgery. This left me with significant functional deficits including my ability to write and speak. I spent several years recovering and the experience led me back to school to become a nurse. The independent patient advocate role dovetails with my professional practice speciality of care management.
