Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
Several years ago, my father, who lived in a rural community, suddenly developed severe chest pain and was airlifted to a local hospital. By the time I arrived two hours later, he had already undergone multiple procedures, and the cardiologist believed he needed urgent open-heart surgery.
In addition to a coronary angiogram, a cerebral angiogram had also been performed. When I asked why, I learned the hospital was attempting to reduce the risk of stroke during cardiac surgery. Yet I knew this was not standard practice, and I had concerns about the decisions being made.
I arranged for my father to be transferred to a tertiary care center for a second opinion. There, specialists carefully reviewed all of his records, imaging, and test results.
Their conclusion was startling.
My father did not need open-heart surgery at all. He was discharged home the very next day!
That experience left a lasting impression on me.
My father avoided unnecessary major surgery because he had me by his side, who could ask questions, understand the medical language, and advocate for a broader review of his care.
Most people do not have that advantage. When faced with complex diagnoses, conflicting recommendations, or overwhelming medical information, patients and families often feel alone and uncertain. My mission is to help bridge that gap—providing clarity, guidance, and informed advocacy so individuals can move forward with confidence and peace of mind.
No one should have to navigate medical complexity alone.
