Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
My name is Dr. Sondra and I’m a board-certified patient advocate specializing in mental health. After more than 20 years working in behavioral health settings, professionally, I saw how easily people can feel lost in the system-misunderstood, unheard, or unsure where to turn. I experienced it personally, when I found myself on the other side of healthcare and navigating a medical crisis during MY illness. Suddenly, I was the patient, fighting for my life and that of my unborn child. Everything I knew about communication, escalation, and safety became personal. I had to advocate fiercely: asking hard questions, insisting on being heard, and not taking “no” for an answer! That’s what inspired me to create a space where clients and families are truly supported, informed, and empowered to take charge of their healthcare journey. Through my advocacy work, I bridge the gap between care and understanding-by helping you navigate psychiatric hospitalizations, supporting treatment transitions, or promoting trauma-informed approaches to mental health care. My goal is simple: supporting access to compassionate, coordinated and effective mental health support.
