Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
The U.S. has a very robust and complex healthcare system that provides many options for disease care.
Unfortunately, it is not geared towards providing a lot of personal provider-patient interaction. As well,
not made for easy understanding.
My conscience has been burdened with this since I was a CNA working at the bedside. As my healthcare
career grows, I become more and more aware of what is lacking and the difficult battles that patients
face. I have been the care provider who has been forced to rush an appointment along while a patient
struggles to understand their condition or situation. I have seen people fall through the cracks because
they were unable to advocate for themselves or just did not know what to say or ask. Lastly, I have seen
that patient or family who needed an extra moment with the person they have entrusted with their
deepest, most personal and intimate concerns. Patients are forced to become vulnerable to healthcare
providers who don’t always have the capacity to protect that vulnerability.
This moral injury caused me to want to leave healthcare completely until I learned about independent
patient advocacy. An arena that knows no time limits where I can use the knowledge I have gained
through education and experience to fully support an individual or family through whatever health
journey they are on. I can be the solid link between the brilliant and dedicated physicians and your or
your loved one
