Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
Helping my parents coordinate the care of my chronically ill sibling was my first challenging healthcare experience. We struggled with obtaining diagnosis, explanation of test results, and decent communication between providers. These unacceptable practices prompted my interest to become a healthcare professional and advocate. Navigating the healthcare system as a patient, immigrant, then as a caregiver to my aging parents, has significantly improved my appreciation for distinct communication. Caring for patients with diagnosis of chronic illnesses, such as cancer, over the past decades has enlightened me to the crucial role of health advocates.

She is a community educator for oncologic healthcare professionals. She is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society, Alliance of Professional Health Advocates, and NCODA. She continues to stay up-to-date in her clinical and advocacy practices through continuing education.
