Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I have been a nurse for nearly 13 years, with experience in emergency medicine, home care, long-term care, patient navigation, and community health. I am passionate about education and love empowering patients by helping them understand their medical conditions and treatments. During my time in navigation, I found great fulfillment in guiding patients through the complexities of their illnesses and the healthcare system. Many patients expressed that they gained much more clarity after our conversations.
Recently, my mother was diagnosed with dementia, and my father has his own health challenges. I’ve been accompanying them to doctor's appointments, ensuring that their care at home aligns with medical recommendations, and coordinating between their various providers. This experience has deepened my passion for patient advocacy, and I want to extend that support to others. In today’s complex healthcare landscape, I believe this kind of guidance is essential.
