Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I have worked at the bedside providing nursing care as well as work for hospitals to obtain insurance authorization for payment. I also worked for the insurance provider to manage patients care. I can speak the language to negotiate with insurance payors. I have the skill to evaluate patient care for timeliness, appropriateness and cost effective. This experience has provided many examples of patients failed by our healthcare system. I see the lack of time healthcare professionals can spend with patients and I want to fill this gap for as many patients as I can. I have performed the role of caregiver, case manager and guardian for my own family. I have lost family too early due to Parkinson's Disease as well as dementia and I understand the needs of most patients and care givers. I actively support Parkinson's research, fund raising, treatment programs, and education in my community. I, myself, exercise daily and it brings me joy to help others reach their health goals despite disability or illness.
