Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I have been drawn to patient advocacy since being a medical student. Inevitably, patients would have questions and need additional information beyond what was provided by their primary care provider. Time restraints are the biggest reason many medical care providers can not provide additional information in a timely manner, if at all. It has been and is very important to me that my role as a physician was to insure thorough care. Much of the time, I was doing the additional navigation on my own time. It was time well spent, and I enjoy searching and finding answers.
More recently, I cared for both my parents during the last years of their life. The years of experience and knowledge I have was of great help navigating the health care system while caring for my parents
I have retired from clinical practice. My knowledge of the medical system is vast after 30 years of training and practice. I love being with and interacting with people. Patient Advocacy is allowing me to still interact and support people, and use my medical knowledge and experience in a listening, helping and coordinating way that will help people make informed medical decisions with confidence.
