Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
As a physician, the decision to come together with two other physicians to form Doctor Daughters was easy. It came out of discussions I had with other physicians about livelihood and lifestyle; working in hospitals, parenting my children and, caring for members of my own family. I face the same challenges as a practicing physician - electronic medical record systems are not married to one another making them impossible to cross reference. I am constantly hearing that a patient's face-time with their physician is limited and that healthcare overall feels like traversing a foreign land without a map or interpreter. I am keenly aware of the complexities within the healthcare system through my clinical work. However, outside my job as a doctor, as a daughter, mother, spouse, neighbor, and friend I consistently found myself helping others navigate these same gaps in their own medical journeys. This was when I realized how helpful it could be if I combined my clinical experience with my human experience and offer this same guidance and expertise to everyone; not just my own families or friends.
