Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
Although I had been healthy, I experienced an unexpected health scare at a relatively young age. The various medical procedures I had to undergo, especially the aftermath that followed, made me realize how vulnerable and powerless a patient can be. After some soul-searching, I ended up changing the course of my life because I didn't want to go through a similar experience ever again. I enrolled in nursing school to empower myself, and during the course of my training, I found my calling in advocating for and empowering my patients, not just myself.

I truly enjoyed taking care of my patients at two different hospitals for several years, but sadly, the healthcare system was shifting its focus from patient care to profit and electronic medical records... I got burned out as I continued to educate and advocate for my patients. I moved to the home-health arena and also studied Healthcare Informatics, but I realized that I really had no way to advocate for better healthcare. That was until I found the role of Independent Patient Advocacy in 2017. I pivoted my career and never looked back. While learning to run a business has been a challenge, I feel passionate about what I do and grateful that I get to make a difference in my clients’ lives.
