Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
My journey into patient advocacy began unexpectedly. Despite leading a healthy life, I faced a sudden health crisis in my early 30s. The ordeal, particularly its aftermath, exposed the stark vulnerabilities patients often experience. This profound realization spurred a pivotal change in my career. Determined never to feel powerless again, I embarked on a path of empowerment through nursing education. During my training, I discovered a deeper purpose: advocating for and empowering others, extending beyond my personal experiences.

I cherished the opportunity to directly impact my patients' lives in oncology, critical care, and medical-surgical nursing at two hospitals. However, as the focus of healthcare increasingly shifted towards profit and electronic records, the essence of patient care seemed to fade, leading to professional burnout. Seeking a change, I ventured into home health and delved into Healthcare Informatics. Yet, the aspiration to advocate for and empower people persisted, unfulfilled, until 2017. That year marked a significant turn when I embraced the role of Independent Patient Advocacy. This transition revitalized my career and aligned perfectly with my passion. Though navigating the intricacies of running a business was challenging, the fulfillment of making a tangible difference in my clients' lives has been immeasurably rewarding.
