Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
My journey to founding Health Sense Advocates is deeply personal, shaped by a lifetime of advocacy and resilience.

As a first-generation immigrant, I began advocating at age 12 for my parents, who didn’t speak English. From navigating banking services to helping my mom get her first job to attending medical appointments with my parents, I became their voice, ensuring their needs were heard and addressed. Witnessing their struggles, taught me to fight for what I need and to combat injustice.

My desire to help others and interest in healthcare led me to earn a Bachelor's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Arizona. With nearly 20 years of healthcare experience, I educated patients about their medications, championed the safe and effective use of drugs for injured workers, built drug formularies, developed clinical programs and fought for insurance coverage and access to the latest diabetes technologies.

However, my pharmacy journey took a profound turn when my husband fell seriously ill. Balancing the roles of wife, mother, and full-time professional, I found myself overwhelmed but determined to find the cause of his illness quickly. My relentless pursuit of answers led to his diagnosis of disseminated Valley Fever and subsequent treatment. This experience underscored the vital importance of patient advocacy, efficient navigation of the US healthcare system, and the impact it can have on health outcomes.

Reflecting on all of my personal and professional experiences, I realized that I had been an advocate since age 12. This realization ignited a sense of purpose in me I had never felt before. Health Sense Advocates was born out of this calling, driven by a commitment to empower individuals navigating their healthcare journeys with the dedication and expertise that I have honed over the years. My journey has equipped me with grit, perseverance, resourcefulness, and deep compassion—qualities that are integral to effective advocacy and healthcare navigation.

At Health Sense Advocates, my mission is to ensure that every individual has access to the resources, knowledge, and support they need to get timely answers and to make informed decisions about their health. This is more than a career for me; it’s a calling.
