My Survivor Support Advocacy Qualifications
I am a survivor of Fertility, perinatal miscarriage and perinatal stilbirth
After one year of trying to conceive, we saw a fertility specialist and tried Intrauterine insemination (IUI), after 10 rounds of fertility medication it did not work. We moved to another state for a new job and began InVitro Fertilization (IVF) right away and there were 20 embryos.
After 8 years and 7 non-consecutive rounds of IVF, we became pregnant with triplets. The last 3 of the 6 embryos remaining were implanted and all 3 took with the clinic’s experimental acupressure. After 20 weeks one of my bags of water ruptured and I stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks. One of the babies passed away due to the amniotic fluid leaking out. In the interim, I got an infection and my blood became septic, and was forced to give birth to our remaining 2 babies. Based on the sepsis diagnosis, I received a blood transfusion. I needed 2 but agreed to 1. Shortly after being discharged from the hospital, we moved to another state where I attended the nurse and peer-led group therapy sessions and had to figure out how to live without our children and keep our marriage intact all while in mourning. I want to be a patient advocate because I survived and want people to know that there is life after fertility and miscarriage.
Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I have a heart and a passion for helping people. My why starts right now. I know miscarriages and similar tragedies happen to families every day. This is a topic rarely discussed among circles unless in whispers. I want to take away the shame and have a safe space for women and families to discuss their feelings and best of all move through the pain after losing a baby. The patient advocacy career is a start to help families navigate life after a loss.
