Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
My path to becoming a patient advocate began when my father was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. During a three-week hospital stay just before the pandemic, my family and I experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to have our concerns heard in a cold, overstretched medical system. After fighting to bring him home, I became his full-time caregiver. He began to recover remarkably — not because of the hospital, but because of the care, attention, and alternative therapies we pursued ourselves, including fenbendazole. Although he passed away a few months later, that experience changed me. I learned how to advocate fiercely, interpret medical information clearly, and center my family’s needs in a system that often sidelines them.

I became a patient advocate after witnessing just how overwhelming and isolating healthcare can be — especially when navigating complex conditions like cancer or mental health challenges. It’s easy to fall through the cracks, feel dismissed by providers, or be left without clear direction. These experiences inspired me to be the kind of advocate I wish my family had: someone steady, informed, and unafraid to speak up. With a background in health-related research and lived experience navigating care systems, I’m here to help patients feel empowered, informed, and genuinely supported throughout their medical journey.

I hold a B.A. in Anthropology from UC Berkeley and was previously a medical student, which gave me a strong foundation in medical terminology, anatomy, and the language of healthcare — and most importantly, the confidence to ask tough questions and hold providers accountable. I specialize in cancer care, mental health support, and guiding families through challenging diagnoses and treatment decisions. As someone in recovery from OCD, I understand the emotional and logistical barriers to accessing proper psychiatric care, and I bring that insight into my work — helping clients find the right diagnoses, therapies, medications, and insurance coverage.

I also offer guidance in exploring integrative and alternative care options when appropriate, while always centering ethical decision-making and patient autonomy. Upholding respect, consent, and transparency in every aspect of care is a value I carry deeply — especially in moments when families feel powerless or unheard.

In the fall, I’ll be pursuing a master’s degree in medical anthropology, which examines health systems and healing practices across cultures. My goal is simple: to ensure no one has to face a complex diagnosis or broken system alone. What I learned through my father’s illness — and my own journey — shouldn’t go to waste. I’m here to make sure others feel seen, heard, and never left behind.
