Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
Just like all of you, I have been the recipient of both wonderful healthcare and yet also all too often of less than steller medical visits. Many of my experiences were"idiopathic" and "cryptogenic" diagnoses or lack thereof, of medical gaslighting, of dismissive providers who throw out "If you would only..." advice. Myself and loved ones have been left with unnecessary delays in care and complications as they did not have someone in their corner helping to navigate the turbulent waters of modern medicine.
With over three decades working in healthcare and nearly 7 years as an "official" patient advocate, I have used my voice and my experiences to help others get the answers and treatments they need. It is not always easy to advocate for yourself or your loved ones while you are in the middle of the emotional upheaval and ongoing stresses related to medical care. That is where having an advocate in your corner can help greatly. I can break down the walls between you and your medical team, explain things in ways you and your family can understand, establish realistic expectations, provide education and resources, think a few steps ahead to determine future needs, connect you to other agencies and services.
Helping patients learn to help themselves and to find their voice is my passion.
