How I Can Help
My strengths and experience working with acute, complex medical situations, new diagnosis, unknown diagnosis, and cancer bring direction to situations of chaos and grief. I work to make sure my clients priorities are heard and honored by the doctors. I always inform and educate those in their support system that my client wants involved at the level the client communicates.

Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
Forty years ago my father was diagnosed with metastatic cancer from exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. He fought hard through his treatment and is still living his best life today at 80 yrs old. Seeing people on the worst day of their lives has been a part of my twenty-year career as a nurse practitioner at major cancer centers. I’ve encountered patients who are overwhelmed, and unable to take in information. They need help but they are confused and don’t know where to begin. Unfortunately, our healthcare system is not set up to help at these times or throughout the course of a long, ongoing, and debilitating illness. Healthcare is a business and often what is best for that system is not what is best for individuals. Even though I have loved my career providing clinical care, I have decided that I can best help patients and their families by working for them as a patient advocate. Working directly for a client avoids the conflict of interests that come when advocates are paid by the hospital or insurance.

I’ve had many close friends and family members deal with cancer and other complex medical situations and because of my background, they have reached out to me for support and guidance. They were scared and confused by the amount of information and conflicting opinions between specialists they received. I believe that everyone, even those without a health care expert in the family, deserves to have an expert to turn to in a healthcare crisis and that is why I am offering my services as a patient advocate.

As an independent advocate I will put all my energy and experience into ensuring that the patient understands and can access the best resources to improve quality of life. I will coordinate, organize, empower, and partner with you to gain control in your care. I am excited to support you through shared decision making and together we will break through the obstacles in your care.
