How I Can Help
As a pharmacist I am a medication expert, many Americans are prescribed many medications and many feel overwhelmed by the constant medication bombardment. My specialty as a licensed pharmacist is optimizing medications and identifying inappropriate prescriptions. I advocate for my patients healthcare by organizing their past medical history, medications list and current lab work among other important health markers. I establish contact with physicians and other prescribers, update pertinent information to ensure safe medication usage. I make efforts to deprescribe inappropriate medications based on science backed evidence. In addition, I offer support by attending healthcare appointments, provide hospital and assisted living/ skilled nursing support and check-in regularly with the patient/ client. Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
Hi, my name is Patrick Alonso and I am YOUR Pharmacist and YOUR Healthcare Advocate. I am a Tampa native and attended the USF Taneja College of Pharmacy right here in Tampa Bay. The role I play in your healthcare is very different from how you may view a traditional pharmacist. Many people ask when meeting me, “Where do you work, CVS or Walgreens?” and I reply, “No, I actually work for you, the client.” Please allow me to elaborate.

Before even considering Pharmacist as a career option, I owned and coached baseball academy for 7.5 years, baseball was my first love, I played since I was 12 and was even a scholarship athlete at Miles College in Birmingham, AL. Due to working atypical hours, owning the academy afforded me time to spend with my grandparents as they aged which is something I will treasure for the rest of my life. However, as they grew older I noticed they began having health issues, medications and doctor visits began piling up, costs were getting outrageous and we all felt lost in this confusing world of medical jargon, puzzling insurance policy terms and scammers trying to prey on the elderly. In many cases I can look back and be disgusted with the entire experience, but something had to be done. My grandparents and I began requesting information, researching what questions to ask and making phone calls to organize their lives. Things began to normalize and we realized that if we wanted great care we need to advocate for ourselves, which is true with many aspects of life.

As I worked my way through pharmacy school, I began to realize the issues my grandparents faced were not in isolation. I worked for a pharmacy based telehealth startup during school and realized people all over the United States were having similar issues, in my rotations and even early career the issues were glaring. I knew creating a space for people to have questions answered definitively, understand healthcare processes, manage medications, etc. is my calling. I worked diligently to receive additional education and up my credentials to a licensed consultant pharmacist. I opened Your Tampa Healthcare Advocates as a place to follow through on my calling and tailor fit health and wellness to each client that walks through the door. Advocating for someone’s healthcare is not limited to organizing health information and medications. In many cases my clients have an established regimen but want to optimize how they feel. We work together to improve lifestyle habits, reduce mediation burden or get a fresh set of eyes on an issue. I truly feel there is no problem we cannot solve together if we set realistic and obtainable goals using studied and peer reviewed processes. I would love to show you how adding a pharmacist to your team can reduce your stress and improve your health.
