Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I have transitioned my career from clinical practice to patient advocacy so that I can spend extra time with highly complex patients. As you know, our healthcare system is very disjointed and broken. Primary care physicians are not able to be thorough enough to monitor all the findings of our most complex patients and coordinate care. We have been forced to refer out to specialists which creates a disjointed and confusing clinical picture for the patients and treating physician specialists.
Complex patients need someone to be on top of it all. Now that I am a patient advocate, I have the privilege of spending hours with complex patients and their records. I can be of great assistance in caring for highly complex patients and will work collaboratively with your healthcare providers. Part of my job as a physician advocate is to streamline communication with treating physicians and make sure diagnosis and treatments are accurate, appropriate, and that you have fully informed consent.
I am also able to virtually attend appointments with patients via video call (schedule permitting). This is another added layer of communication and protection if you feel vulnerable and scared in the exam room. It is my goal to make sure you are heard and understood and feel empowered to take charge of your healthcare.

Additional Skills
Working as an expert witness in the legal system is what initially gave me the idea to provide my services to patients. The level of detail given to the medical records and histories of legal cases should also be a standard for patients. It was also an opportunity to teach highly complex topics to diverse audiences which I found very rewarding. My experience in healthcare has been diverse. It has exposed me to multiple facets of healthcare delivery, and it's failures. I've been able to use this knowledge to evaluate a patient's situations from alternative perspectives. I have a special interest in complex and rare illness. I obtained my bachelor's degree in physiology and neurobiology and a minor in biochemistry with the goal having a deeper understanding complex and rare diseases. There is a tremendous unmet need in the complex and rare illness community for physicians to spend time reading and researching their conditions so that they can get the best care possible.
