Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
My story started when, at the age of 36, I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis without any knowledge of what that was. Over the years, I experienced some terrible health care from medical staff who did not know what autoimmune hepatitis was and wrongly told me that I had Hepatitis C.
A few months after I turned 50, I was told that I needed to have a full liver transplant and was referred to a hospital out of town for care. I received the best care imaginable for the situation at this new hospital. Over the eight months that I received care at this hospital, my health failed drastically to where I received my liver transplant.
Receiving this care made me want to work in healthcare in some way to ensure that others never have to experience the "bad" side of care and only receive what is the best available. Over the years, I have gained both a Bachelor's and Master of Science in Healthcare Administration and am currently working on my Doctorate of Health Science at Purdue University Global. I will sit for my Board Certified Patient Advocacy exam in March 2025.
