Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
With more than 15 years of nursing experience, I have seen firsthand the significant gaps in support that families often face after a diagnosis of dementia or Parkinson’s disease. Many are left feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about how to navigate the next steps in their loved one’s care.
This understanding became deeply personal when my father in law fell critically ill. Even with my clinical background, advocating for the care he needed was challenging and time-consuming. Critical details were occasionally missed, and without continuous advocacy, his outcome could have been very different. Experiencing the healthcare system from the perspective of a family member rather than a clinician—revealed how vulnerable families can feel, even when they have medical knowledge.
This experience intensified my dedication to ensuring that no family has to face these challenges alone. It fuels my commitment to offering clear guidance, dependable support, and compassionate care to those navigating dementia, Parkinson’s, and the complex realities of aging.
