Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I became a patient advocate after witnessing the gaps that often occur when patients and families face complex or end-of-life decisions without adequate guidance. In rehabilitation settings, I frequently found myself leading difficult conversations about end-of-life care when hospitals lacked the time or resources to explain what to expect. I saw the suffering that comes when families are unprepared for the normal processes of end-of-life, and I recognized the need for compassionate education and support. My role has also involved coordinating care among multiple specialists to ensure patients have accurate health information, current medications, and a clear plan—addressing acute issues that primary care providers and hospitalists often cannot fully evaluate.
