How I Can Help
I can offer direct peer support by attending appointments with you, be your support team, an extra ear and take notes. I work with you to ensure you feel comfortable with the care plan and the chosen treatments are suitable and appropriate for your individual needs and circumstances.
I'm happy to provide medical drawings of the body parts that are involved prior to a meeting with your health care provider. It's a tool I've personally used over the years and every physician so far has thanked me and complimented me on it. It helps clarifying questions and speeds things up. The drawings are extremely helpful prior to a surgery.
I've been lucky to have had support groups during my cancer journey and don't know how I could have done it without them. I know of many support programs that I be happy to share including finding ways to get financial support. I want to give back!

My Survivor Support Advocacy Qualifications
I am a survivor of Breast Cancer (Pagets Disease of the Breast)
I like to point out that a patient advocate, at least to me, is not another person that tells you what to do but someone that looks out for your best interest when you may or may not have the strength or energy or knowledge to do so. I'm here to help you make an informed decision and support your wishes in how you would like to proceed to the next step. I also come to the conclusion that whatever procedure one chooses will be the right one. We are all different and there is no such thing as one size fits all.
I've been active in many FB support groups and learnt so much from these amazing women out there and honestly don't know where I be without them. I want to give back!
Several years back I was a different person, I was very naive and invisible. After some unfortunate scenarios with my surgeons I went through a huge learning curve. It was the hardest lesson but also the best thing that could have ever happened to me. That experience thought me how to be seen, heard and understood. My primary care physician constantly praises me how I've became a master in navigating the medical system and am excellent advocate for myself.
Additionally my role as a caregiver for my senior spouse has taught me the value of patience, understanding, and adaptability in supporting loved ones going through their medical journey.
Prior to surgery I always used medical drawings of the body parts that were involved. It served as an effective tool to clarify communication between myself and the healthcare providers. Every time my drawings have been praised by my doctors and surgeons, as it brings simplicity and clarity to our discussions. The use of drawings allow me to simply point to a specific body part and clarify the exact treatment plan. It's a great way to reduce potential misunderstandings.
In my professional life, besides many things, I serve as a first assistant director on film sets. I get to manage a large team consisting of cast and crew members from all walks of life. I handle logistical tasks such as scheduling, and more than not solve day to day issues. Oftentimes than not, my duties are considered "Putting out the Fires", which I love doing. It requires me to think quickly and be adaptable and flexible in a moments notice.

Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
My passion to wanting to be an advocate started with my own journey. It took me 4 years to have had the courage to ask for a biopsy. I was dismissed for some time and thanks to others dealing with the same symptoms I learnt what kind of biopsy I needed to ask for. I had Pagets Disease of the breast. A rare type of breast cancer.
I kept hearing the term that one needs to self advocate, I didn't understand to what degree though. I know now and I've been able to help a few of my friends and new found friends what to do prior to an appointment, what tests to ask for and how to ask for them in order to help yourself and the health care provider how to proceed. This will help the individual to make an informed decision in a timely manner.
