How I Can Help
I help patients and families facing new or serious diagnoses as well as chronic illness. I have a particular interest with my experience in oncology, early detection, high risk cancer and survivorship.
Medical care today can be very complex and overwhelming for patients, particularly with a serious, chronic or terminal illness and the need to see multiple specialists.
With my vast experience as an NP, I can help patients and families in multiple ways including the following:
Organize symptoms and concerns to maximize efficiency of appointments
Prepare key questions
Attend in person or via video
Take notes and ensure you are heard and concerns are addressed
Support during hospitalizations
Explain diagnoses and results in general terms
Review treatment plans
Support post hospitalization and surgery
Translate complex medical information into clear language
Help patients understand diagnoses, tests, and treatment options
Provide calm, experienced support during difficult medical situations
Help navigate complex, healthcare systems and specialists
With permission, help communicate with healthcare providers and family members

Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
As a nurse practitioner for almost 20 years, primarily in oncology, I have seen significant changes in the field of medicine over the years. Most of these are exciting and groundbreaking, but with increasing understanding of complex conditions and more treatment options and specialists comes confusion and overwhelm for patients and families in a time that can already be tumultuous. I have loved being extremely detailed and thorough with patients throughout my career and giving the very best care possible- even to my own detriment of not being able to finish my work until late hours. It has been worthwhile for me to know I am giving the most attention, listening extremely carefully to patients and providing them with answers in a detailed fashion, not leaving any stone unturned. However, I also know that many patients typically do not feel that their care translates this way and I want to be able to use my expertise and experience to help advocate for patients and help them navigate the complex healthcare system.
I also bring my personal experience advocating for myself as someone with multiple genetic mutations placing me at risk for cancer. Through my many surgeries and hospitalizations and the challenges I have faced, I have learned so much about the importance of advocacy and how to best guide patients through difficult times.
