Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I know what it feels like to receive devastating medical news and not know who to trust.
During my pregnancy, an ultrasound specialist delivered a diagnosis of fetal malformation — right before a holiday weekend. The days that followed were among the most frightening of my life. After seeking the right specialist, the diagnosis was wrong. My son was born healthy.
Years later, already in the United States, a severe spinal condition left me unable to walk. The first surgeon described a major procedure as routine — over a week in the ICU, months of recovery. I kept looking. After three opinions I found the right surgeon and had a minimally invasive procedure instead. I was walking the next day and out of the hospital in two days.
Both times my medical background helped me ask the right questions and refuse to accept the first answer. Most patients don't have that. That is why I do this work — so no one faces those moments alone.
