With a background in the Natural Sciences and over a decade of experience in Genetics Technology, I’ve spent years immersed in the details of how our bodies work. Combining that scientific knowledge with my lived experience, I founded Straight from the Heart Patient Advocacy to help others find clarity, confidence, and compassion in their healthcare journeys.
Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I know firsthand how exhausting and overwhelming the healthcare system can be. Years ago, I sought answers after a massage therapist suggested I might have Fibromyalgia. My doctor’s response was, "You’re not in enough pain."
For nearly eight years, I lived in a body that was screaming for help while the medical system told me I was 'fine.' I spent lunch breaks napping in my car and work days barely able to hold a pen, all because a professional told me I wasn't in enough pain to be sick. That 2,920-day delay in my diagnosis is one of the reasons I do this work today.
When I later began showing symptoms of Lupus, I knew the 'clear family history' wasn't just a story—it was my genetic blueprint. But I still faced the same dismissal. Supported by a wonderful primary care physician, I took charge of my health and pushed for a referral to the Lupus experts at UCSD. Because I advocated for myself early, I received a prompt diagnosis and have been able to manage my disease effectively with first-line therapy.
I realized that the difference between suffering in silence and reclaiming your life is having someone who knows how to translate the science into action. With over a decade in Genetics Technology, I spent my career looking at the tiny details that lead to accurate blueprints of the human body. I understand the data, the labs, and the science. But when I became the patient, I realized that data without an advocate is just noise. I combine my scientific detective skills with my lived experience to ensure my clients never have to fight for their dignity while they’re fighting for their lives.
