My Survivor Support Advocacy Qualifications
I am a survivor of Thyroid Cancer, Melanoma
I navigated thyroid cancer and melanoma and was a caregiver supporting family members with pancreatic and endometrial cancer as well as pre and post surgery care for posterior fossa meningioma.
Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
My path to patient advocacy began with caring for my parents during serious illness.
When my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, our family had the support of hospice professionals and social workers who helped us navigate difficult decisions and end of life care. Years later, when my mother was facing terminal cancer in Dubai, we spent countless hours coordinating care, seeking second opinions, managing logistics, and navigating the healthcare system while trying to honor her wish to remain at home.
The difference between those two experiences was striking. When my father was ill, we had people helping us navigate the system. When my mother was ill, much of that responsibility fell on the family. When families have support, they can focus on care and dignity. When they do not, even good medical care can become overwhelming.
I also experienced healthcare from both the patient and caregiver perspective through my own cancer diagnoses and while supporting my husband through complex brain surgery and recovery.
MYNA was inspired by and created in honor of my mother, Jeannette G. Andary, a hospice social worker whose compassion and commitment to helping others guide our work.
Today, as a Board Certified Patient Advocate, I have the privilege of providing the kind of support that makes a meaningful difference to patients and families during difficult times.
