Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
My journey into patient advocacy began with my early experiences as a pediatric nurse, where I witnessed firsthand how critical it is for families to feel supported, informed, and empowered throughout the healthcare process. Over the years, working in pediatric rehabilitation, long-term care, and case management, I saw how complex and overwhelming the healthcare system can be, especially during times of vulnerability. These moments inspired me to take on a greater role in guiding patients and families through their care journeys. I became a Certified Case Manager and certified pediatric nurse and continued expanding my skills through education and teaching, so I could better support individuals across the lifespan. Advocacy, to me, means ensuring that no patient feels alone, unheard, or uncertain about their care. It’s about being the consistent, compassionate voice in an often complicated system.
