Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I first began working as a patient advocate 3 years ago. I had worked for several years in the Emergency Department and seen how flawed the US healthcare system is, and how barriers were keeping patients from getting the care they need. In the ED I felt limited in my ability to truly impact and help patients, but as an advocate I have loved seeing how much I can find work-arounds and solutions to the systematic problems my patients face.
