Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I'm Dr. Elizabeth Mizelle, founder of Palm Wellness. I started this advocacy after finding myself in an unfamiliar space as my mother's caregiver. She has advanced dementia. Taking on this role while being a young professional with a family of my own is one of the hardest things I've ever done. Attending doctor visits and coordinating her care were unnecessarily painstaking. During this process of advocating for my mother, I thought about the stress and fear that non-physician caregivers must be feeling. After learning a lot about elder care, dementia care, and the healthcare system through my own trials, I became passionate about patient advocacy.
