As your medical advocate, I can stand beside you so that your voice is heard and your needs are met. I can be a strong, health ally throughout your entire medical journey so that you have the best care possible. The following are things I can do to help make your life easier:
• I can attend medical appointments remotely with you when needed.
• I can research new physicians, treatment plans, medications, pharmacies, hospitals or other medical facilities that you need.
• I can communicate with medical offices to set up appointments and also follow-up on those appointments with your medical team so there is a continuous line of care.
• I can navigate stubborn insurances that are refusing to approve a medication, treatment modality, physician appointment or a prior authorization.
• I can speak with your medical team about possible treatments for you and the reasons why.
• I can breakdown and explain complex medical information to you in layman's terms so that you can make the decisions that are right for you.
• I can support you remotely when you are hospitalized and need an advocate to be on your side every step of the way. A patient’s needs are often overlooked to the detriment of the patient during hospital stays. I understand how to navigate the relationship with your medical team to get you excellent, individualized care regardless of the medical setting.
• I’m the one to call when you have endless pages of medical reports to go over and you don’t really understand the medical terms.
• I can analyze medical reports, discharge summaries and other documents because I enjoy educating and empowering my patients.

I am a survivor of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, Chronic Pain, Migraine Disorder
Hi I am Merarri or Emmy for short because everyone has a hard time pronouncing my name. I have a deep passion for medicine and patient care. I had my eyes set on a nursing career and was almost finished with school when my dream to become a nurse came to a screeching halt. One day while shopping at a local grocery store, a woman smashed into the back of my hand with her shopping cart which led to an ugly bruise. Little did I know, that injury would lead to Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, a devastating and incurable pain disease that spreads.
This disease has exposed me to the worst of medicine from dismissive physicians that don’t believe the severity of my pain, physicians that have forced me into experimental invasive treatments, forced medication tapers to incompetent nurses that miscounted on pill counts.
Not only that, I have gone through grueling and frustrating conversations dealing with insurances and pharmacies that tend to deny treatment modalities or medications that I needed. So I have learned many invaluable lessons navigating the complicated and headache-inducing medical system.

Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I believe in my heart that my immense pain and suffering from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome was for a purpose. I was truly meant to be an advocate to help others in their health journey. I feel that chronic pain patients overwhelmed with emotional and physical pain suffer enough. The medical system, pharmacies and insurances frequently make their lives much more difficult than it has to be.
