E&O Insurance - Declaration for Patient Advocacy
Hello: I'm facing difficulty purchasing E&O insurance. The companies I am receiving quotes from are sending me policy specimen documents that are clearly not written for patient advocates, or they won't let me even see the patient advocacy declaration, and/or the policy has an ambiguous medical services exclusion that may or may not include some advocacy services. Does anyone have any experience with this and advice? Perhaps a binded policy document you could share? Thank you
For me that was «secretarial services» because I only do virtual work, never see clients in person, never drive them, never have them come to my home, and never got to hospital. If you do these things or are a clinician as well then your category would be different.
Some use «health consultant» but that does not really speak to what advocates do because we are not consulting with hospitals and doctors. (This will also greatly increase the price.)
I had a tough time at first and asked my local SBDC's insurance broker consultant about this and she was the one that recommended that designation after I described what I did.
I got my insurance through BiBerk and pay a little over $700 for the year for both Professional and General liability.
And also double down on what Victoria said…
those advocates who are NP or PA tend to have the most complex challenges in figuring out insurance.
those who are MD/DO/DPT also may have some specific requirements
I don't and can't give any guidance on this topic; just sharing the themes from prior conversations.
