Traumatic Brain Injury Caregiver Navigator and Patient Advocate, Advocates For Hope
Kathleen is a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Family Advocate who helps overwhelmed caregivers move from chaos to clarity during the most unpredictable phases of TBI recovery. After supporting her husband through his own traumatic brain injury in March of 2024, she became passionate about giving families the education and support she wished she had.

The History of PPS:
Founded in 2014, PPS has evolved into a vibrant forum where healthcare professionals, caregivers, and community members collaborate to advance patient safety. Through meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange, participants gain valuable insights from shared experiences, ultimately enhancing their understanding of safe care practices and implementing evidence-based solutions in their respective settings.



Who Should Attend: ​
Individuals from the healthcare workforce (both current and retired), patient advocates, caregivers, and community members with firsthand experience of the healthcare system.

Time: 7:00 PM Eastern Time - Feel free to join early for check-in and casual conversation. ​

The program is free. Fee for BCPA CE's is $10
To foster authentic connections, we kindly request that your camera remain on during discussions. This creates a more engaging environment where we can truly get to know each other and build our community together.

Her work focuses on helping families understand what’s really happening, how to communicate more effectively, and explains how they can try to protect themselves and their loved one from situations they would never think to prepare for. Through coaching and a clear, actionable plan, Kathleen empowers families to take back their sense of control and play an active role in their journey toward healing.

This training provides an overview of effective advocacy for patients with disabilities.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

​Marc Berlin, BCPA
Marc’s interest in Patient Advocacy is personal and began early in life. Born with Cerebral Palsy, Marc learned early about the many challenges to receiving quality medical care. In 2020, Marc founded On-the-Marc Patient Advocate Services to provide medical and disability consulting services to patients and families in need of assistance navigating the healthcare system to receive competent care. Marc is a Board Certified Patient Advocate.

Helen Rottier, PhD
Helen Rottier is a researcher and advocate focused on disabled knowledge production. She works in the Waisman Center in Madison, Wisconsin, contributing to the Autism Research Consortium on Systems of Care and WI LEND, and she has a PhD in Disability Studies from the University of Illinois Chicago. As a disabled person, she is especially interested in patient advocacy and care experiences for people with medical phobia. She has presented in ECHO Autism, the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and the Autism Intervention Research Program - Physical Health.

About ACES
ACES delivers a dynamic, hour-long virtual experience featuring expert-led presentations followed by interactive group discussions and real-world case studies. Participants actively contribute their perspectives and insights throughout each session, which concludes with a dedicated Q&A segment.

We encourage networking before and after meetings to foster valuable connections within our community. To continuously enhance our program, we collect participant feedback through targeted polls and surveys, helping us refine content and identify compelling future topics.
