Our journey into patient advocacy didn't start with a plan. It started with a routine physician exam that turned into a heart catheterization within 60 minutes. My wife and I went from an ordinary Tuesday to learning, almost overnight, what a catheterization actually involves, what questions to ask about treatment options, and what recovery would really look like — all while mid-schedule for First Aid classes we'd committed to teach. What got us through wasn't hospital experience. It was people experience. Years earlier, we'd each spent long seasons as wellness caregivers for our mothers, and that work taught us how to sit with uncertainty, ask better questions, and stay steady when the medical system moves faster than your understanding of it. Today I use that experience to walk alongside others heading into cardiac procedures, especially catheterizations. Separately, I have learned of three relatives committing suicide as a result of family members not hearing them over some 30 years. I am currently 68 and with the love and help of Miriam my wife going on 33-years I have learned that communication is everything. First with yourself and secondly with those around you. So for the past 13-years I invested in how to effectively communicate and engage with others so I could work with people that were going through life's changes. My intent is to help you to remember your strengths, your capabilities and most importantly your Dreams. We work together to develop a real life sustainable approach that you identify with and in its creation you see that even if the challenges of life are still present, you are able to keep focused on your life's dreams. We call this resilience and you become your own agent of change.
