Post Partum Bracelet Could Save Your Client's Life

It’s more than just a bracelet. It could save the life of a patient who’s recently experienced childbirth.
We’re now partnering with the Nebraska Perinatal Quality Improvement Collaborative (NPQIC) to provide a teal bracelet to patients after childbirth that says “#postpartumalert.”
By identifying patients as postpartum, the goal is to ensure they’ll get the care they need should they experience a concerning symptom. Those symptoms include heavy bleeding, severe headache that won’t go away, extreme fatigue, and swelling, among others. We encourage patients to wear the bracelet for six weeks after childbirth.
“Nationally, it is recognized the maternal hypertension is a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity,” says Teresa Berg, MD, medical director, Women’s Services. “Early detection leads to improved blood pressure management, lower rate of morbidity, lower hospitalization rates. At least 25% of hypertension associated with pregnancy is diagnosed after delivery.”
The goal is for all hospitals in Nebraska to participate in the Postpartum Alert Program. We’re currently reaching out to our community EMS partners about the new program.

This is such a logical and fascinating concept. I hope this is something that more birthing centers provide to patients.
