Potential new way to take cromolyn sodium
Hi all! If you have MCAS patients (especially those with concurrent ME/CSF) you might want to check out recent case study series out of Hopkins.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41728426/
Here is the basic summary of this study: «take oral cromolyn using a continuous dosing regimen, placing the entire day's dose in an opaque bottle that is then filled with water, and sipping the solution throughout the day. If a conventional maximum dose of eight vials daily (800 mg) was tolerated but ineffective after a week, the patients were instructed to increase to 1600-2400 mg daily until reaching an optimal effect. We report that a cromolyn dose of 1600-2400 mg daily, administered using the continuous oral dosing regimen during the day, was effective in controlling signs and symptoms of mast cell activation.»
It is a small case series but it could be worth talking to your patient’s cromolyn prescriber about, especially if they are currently unable to take the full amount due to energy levels.
I take mine in gatorade (can't do striaght water) but do the 4 oz liquid to 1/2 tube cromolyn 4x daily which works for me.
