About me
I worked in healthcare for 40+ years at the lab bench and alongside clinicians in academia and the pharmaceutical industry. After my last job ended, I searched and searched for a way to truly serve patients, not from a distance, but personally. My first idea was to advocate for reproductive rights but that field didn’t seem to need my qualifications. Patient Advocacy kept popping up in my internet searches, but I’d never heard of such a profession, and I was intrigued. Once discovering the multitude of ways an advocate can affect positive change in a patient’s life had me convinced – that was my new calling! I took courses to become a Board Certified Patient Advocate and started my own business, Stepwise Patient Advocacy, in 2022. I’ve never regretted my decision. I love my clients!
Formal Education
Vanderbilt University, PhD, Cellular and Molecular Pathology 2000
University of Arizona, BS, Health Related Professions 1986
Additional Skills
We are all unique, but I’ve been told I’m uniquely unique! Despite years of education, you’ll find that I am a very down to earth person, I tell it like it is, and I put things in simple terms. No hoity-toity attitude here! We’re all people in virtually the same body, we all bleed red and our insides are pink. Every one of us. Together we are one and I believe that we are at our best when we serve others.
I have supported clients with cancer of the lungs, skin, breast, and pancreas; clients with rare diseases such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome; numerous senior clients in aging well, and others, too.
