A personal family crisis showed me how many other families struggle when they are suddenly thrown into the fast paced world of modern healthcare. As an ICU nurse at a cancer hospital, I saw the causes of medical error from inside the system and knew I could do something about it from outside. When I was almost fired for advocating for an ICU patient in danger, the surgeon tried to have me fired for being a whistle blower. I left shortly afterward to start my first advocacy firm in 2011 and the rest as they say is history.
